The board president of a national professional nonprofit had performance concerns about the Executive Director, from a different cultural background. She didn't trust HR to help and was concerned that her questions might be misconstrued as racial bias.
We separated the employee's behavior from their culture, worked out language that was honest without being accusatory, and practiced talking points that felt natural and comfortable for to bring up to the employee and her team.
